My boys are now 5 years old and it has only been recently that I realized how much of their newborn days that I just can't remember with detail. Sure, there was sleep depreivation...lots of that...and all of the trying and precious things that newborns go through. But I really can't remember specifically what they looked like. I didn't think through how significant photos of them would be from their first few weeks and months. I have snap shots, but they really don't do justice to their small forms. They just don't capture the form or detail of a sleeping, curled newborn.
It was about month 5 before I got their first really good images. By month 5 they do not resemble newborns at all. They are still very sweet pictures that I treasure, but they don't capture the nuances of what they looked like as tiny, brand new babies. So, today I just wanted to get on my soapbox and say newborn photos are priceless and there is only a short time in a baby's life to do them....preferably in the first 2-3 weeks. Here's an image from a recent session to bring back some memories!
